How to get to Cold Bay, Alaska

1) Fly to Anchorage (ANC) from your home city — most travelers connect through Seattle. 2) Overnight in Anchorage if your inbound doesn't connect same-day. 3) Board Alaska Airlines flight to Cold Bay (CDB), typically operating several times a week. 4) 2 hr 20 min flight, often as a combi (cargo forward, passengers aft), sometimes with a stop at King Salmon or Dutch Harbor depending on schedule.

Alaska Airlines' standard baggage rules apply, but the 737 combi has strict cargo weight limits — oversized items (rifles, bows, dog crates, coolers of frozen fish) can bump if the flight is heavy. Ship non-essential gear ahead via Alaska Air Cargo whenever possible, and confirm firearm and ammunition procedures before you fly.

From Cold Bay you can charter or fly scheduled bush service to King Cove, Sand Point, False Pass, Nelson Lagoon, and remote lodges. All are weather-dependent Grand Caravan or Beaver flights — plan on a full day of flexibility for any onward leg.

Build at least one buffer day on the front and back of any Cold Bay trip. Fog, high wind, and low ceilings routinely delay or cancel flights, sometimes for two or three consecutive days. A missed connection on the way home is on you, not the airline — the ticket you booked to Seattle will not wait.
